Technical Information
To ensure autorun and distribution:
Modifies the following registry keys:
- [<HKCU>\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] 'system32' = '%WINDIR%\lsass.exe'
Creates the following files on removable media:
- <Drive name for removable media>:\autorun.inf
- <Drive name for removable media>:\Kowai.exe
Malicious functions:
To complicate detection of its presence in the operating system,
forces the system hide from view:
- hidden files
- file extensions
blocks execution of the following system utilities:
- Command Prompt (CMD)
- Windows Task Manager (Taskmgr)
- Registry Editor (RegEdit)
Modifies settings of Windows Internet Explorer:
- [<HKCU>\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main] 'Window Title' = 'Jangan cemarkan Kota Selatan'
Modifies file system :
Creates the following files:
- %WINDIR%\autorun.inf
- <Current directory>\Kowai.exe
- <Current directory>\autorun.inf
- %WINDIR%\Kowai.exe
- %WINDIR%\lsass.exe
Sets the 'hidden' attribute to the following files:
- %WINDIR%\autorun.inf
- <Drive name for removable media>:\autorun.inf
- %WINDIR%\Kowai.exe
- %WINDIR%\lsass.exe
Miscellaneous:
Searches for the following windows:
- ClassName: '(null)' WindowName: 'Confirm File Delete'
- ClassName: '(null)' WindowName: 'System Configuration Utility'
- ClassName: 'Indicator' WindowName: '(null)'
- ClassName: '(null)' WindowName: 'About Windows'
