Technical Information
To ensure autorun and distribution:
Modifies the following registry keys:
- [<HKCU>\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\Run] 'Explorer' = '<SYSTEM32>\Explorer.sm2'
- [<HKLM>\SOFTWARE\Classes\sm2File\shell\open\command] '' = '<DRIVERS>\etc\services.exe'
- [<HKLM>\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon] 'Shell' = 'explorer.exe'
- [<HKLM>\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] 'Lao Antivirus' = '%WINDIR%\NOTEPAD.EXE'
Creates the following files on removable media:
- <Drive name for removable media>:\MonsterHunter_Freedom_3G_7d8fd88dhdf7dfhnanudf7e.jpg.exe
- <Drive name for removable media>:\autorun.inf
- <Drive name for removable media>:\explorer.com
- <Drive name for removable media>:\FREEDOMOFLIFEJAPANBOY.jpg.exe
Malicious functions:
To complicate detection of its presence in the operating system,
forces the system hide from view:
- hidden files
- file extensions
blocks execution of the following system utilities:
- Windows Task Manager (Taskmgr)
- Registry Editor (RegEdit)
Modifies settings of Windows Explorer:
- [<HKCU>\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] 'NoFolderOptions' = '00000001'
- [<HKCU>\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] 'NoRun' = '00000001'
Modifies settings of Windows Internet Explorer:
- [<HKCU>\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main] 'Window Title' = '00000009'
Modifies file system :
Creates the following files:
- <SYSTEM32>\Explorer.sm2
- <DRIVERS>\etc\services.exe
Sets the 'hidden' attribute to the following files:
- <Drive name for removable media>:\explorer.com
- <Drive name for removable media>:\autorun.inf
- <DRIVERS>\etc\services.exe
- <SYSTEM32>\Explorer.sm2
Deletes the following files:
- <Drive name for removable media>:\autorun.inf
