Technical Information

When virus start, it creates Gigabyte.vbs file in system directory - C:\Windows\System.
Provides its autorun by creating registry keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\Gigabyte and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices\Gigabyte

Besides the basic function - expansion via email by using MS Outlook client, virus contains set of destructive functions:
1. Blocking start of the registry editor RegEdit.
2. Formatting HDD (Win9x only).
3. Deleting such points in Start menu: Programs, Shut Down, Find, Run, Documents, etc.
4. Switching off keyboard and mouse (Win9x only).
5. Function of reassignment of mouse buttons.
6. Deleting special directories Documents and Settings.
7. Restarting computer (Win9x only).
8. Changing of browser start page.

Besides, virus contains functions of minimizing all active windows and displaying password message box.

Curing recommendations

If the operating system (OS) can be loaded (either normally or in safe mode), download Dr.Web Security Space and run a full scan of your computer and removable media you use. More about Dr.Web Security Space.
If you cannot boot the OS, change the BIOS settings to boot your system from a CD or USB drive. Download the image of the emergency system repair disk Dr.Web® LiveDisk , mount it on a USB drive or burn it to a CD/DVD.
